Health insurance plays a crucial role in a competitive employment package, with 93% of employees considering it when making job decisions, said Jasleen Sethi, the Head of SME and Individual Client Management, Sukoon Insurance and Bupa Global during a panel titled The Fast Track to Hiring at HR Summit & Expo (HRSE) conference at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Sethi added that employers must invest time in designing comprehensive health plans that cater to the diverse demographics in the UAE. These plans should not only cover hospitalisation but also address mental health and overall well-being, Sethi added.
“In today’s world, employees seek more than just physical health coverage—they also expect mental health support. Employers can enhance their offerings by incorporating sports and wellness programs that meet the various needs of their workforce,” she said during the panel discussion.
One key challenge is raising awareness about the full scope of available health insurance options, especially as the landscape has evolved significantly since pre-COVID times. For example, mental health, once a taboo subject, is now a common point of discussion due to the increased health anxiety brought on by the pandemic, Sethi explained.
Therefore, she added that employers need to understand that many insurance companies offer more than just basic health benefits—they also provide employee support and wellness programs. Once these packages are implemented, it’s essential for employers to educate their staff on the value of these offerings.
This awareness and engagement are critical to ensuring employees fully appreciate the benefits provided through their health insurance packages.
