LinkedIn’s Role in Boosting AI Skills in the Workforce

Whether it is in tech, finance, or fashion, more employers are seeking talent with AI skills, and many of them are turning to LinkedIn to gain those skills, said LinkedIn Chief Product Officer Tomer Cohen in an interview with the Associated Press (AP).

Cohen explained that the platform is witnessing a very competitive job market, with significantly more applications year-over-year, reflecting an increased demand for talent with AI skills.

“It differs slightly between industries, but you see the demand for talent right now with AI,” Cohen told the AP.

Cohen added that about 50% of people want to change roles this year, with a greater demand for AI-powered skills.

“When we talk to leaders, 80% of them – across industries – say they know it’s really important to adopt AI in their companies. But most of them don’t know how to do it. They lack the confidence and the skill set to actually bring it into the fold,” Cohen told the AP.

This gap is driving people across various seniority levels to learn AI skills, many of whom are finding that knowledge through LinkedIn.

“We’re seeing a 160% increase in professionals learning these skills – and showcasing them on their profiles,” Cohen added.

LinkedIn adopting AI features

“It’s clear to everybody that AI presents a very big, profound shift,” Cohen said.

LinkedIn has relaunched its recruiter tool and is now powering its direct messaging features with AI to help recruiters write their messages. He explained that with these new changes, they are witnessing a 40% increase in message acceptance.

Previously, in November, LinkedIn launched features to help users understand their fit for specific roles.

“We saw great retention from that, and now we are launching an enhancement that can help people look across many jobs, not just one,” Cohen said.

LinkedIn plans to help users build resumes and cover letters tailored to specific jobs, with the intention of helping people progress in their careers.
