COVID vaccine maker Moderna said on Friday it plans to hire about 2,000 employees globally by the end of 2023; adding that they will set up offices in the U.S. West Coast, as the company scales up development of new products amid declining COVID vaccine sales.
The company said they will open new offices in California and Seattle, as they look into expanding their Genomics unit to south San Francisco.
“Our team has continued to push beyond what we ever imagined possible to completely reimagine how medicines are created and delivered. We are making significant investments in both people and infrastructure to build the most impactful version of Moderna,” said Tracey Franklin, Chief Human Resources Officer of Moderna. “At Moderna, we give our people a platform to change medicine and an opportunity to change the world.”
Their new office in Seattle will provide technology solutions across the enterprise and further scale the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based tools across the platform by capitalizing on the region’s existing technology talent; the company said.
They will be hiring Technical Program Managers, Product Managers and Software Development Engineers.
Moderna has been working on developing vaccines for skin cancer, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) using its mRNA technology.
In February, the company forecast rising costs for 2023 and a decline in COVID vaccine sales, could put them at loss. Currently they have 48 mRNA programs in development, 38 are in active clinical trials.
Currently, the Company currently has operations in 17 countries worldwide and about 3,900 full-time employees as of Dec. 31, according to a regulatory filing.
