These priorities were clearly reflected in our top 10 list of the most viewed blogs, where remote work topics showed up five times, followed by steps that HR leaders could take to lead their workforce through uncertainty.

As stay-at-home orders began to be issued, many office workers found themselves working at home for the very first time. Both worker and HR leader sought best practices, which Jason Richmond shared in a blog post that continues to be very relevant.

In the early days of the pandemic, we heard leaders describe the situation as “unprecedented” and “uncertain”, and who could blame them? Business decisions were tough to make with moments where literally nobody had any idea of what would happen next.
The Oracle Cloud HCM team had a front-row seat to the pandemic as we worked with our own customers to see what they needed. Among the developments included the HR Hierarchy of Needs, a model developed by Product Strategy Director Nancy Estell Zoder that explains what HR organizations need to thrive in the midst of crisis.
“Has there ever been a more exciting or challenging time to work in the HCM field?”, wrote Jason Richmond on January 2nd. While not the exact tea leaves for the year that would transpire, Richmond’s predictions would bear relevance, from the need to reskill the workforce to economic, social, and political challenges.
New questions and challenges emerged as companies sought guidance on bringing their employees back into the office. As workers logged on from home this year, the isolation also led to an increase in stress and mental health challenges that were discussed in our [email protected] Study. In response, many companies have begun to offer benefits to their workers that address these very issues at work, shared in this blog post.
Before the pandemic hit, data showed that roughly 5% of workers with full-time jobs worked from home. With many now out of their element and needing to balance their families and children while continuing to work, longtime remote workers like Greg Jensen, Oracle’s Sr. Director of Security shared their tips on how to adjust.
Though it’s another predictions blog written just before the pandemic changed everything, the insights of Emily He, SVP HCM Marketing still bore weight as the year went on. Conversational interfaces, AI in HR, and career mobility all saw their attention, though for different reasons than originally intended. The future workforce will be returning to a post-pandemic world with new skill sets, beliefs, work ethic, and aspirations, wrote Shaakun Khanna, Head of HCM Applications—Asia Pacific early on in the pandemic. While the workforce has generally been known to be multi-generational based on birth year, new ways of work will create a new generation based on resiliency.
Finally, working from home also means continuing to invest and engage in your workforce—even if face-to-face recognition of good work might be on-hold for a while.
