How Can Remote Work Become Enjoyable & Effective?

While smooth onboarding and an organised work model are key aspects of remote work, it is also important to focus on keeping the team motivated in the long term to avoid feeling isolated.

In 2023, the UAE called for the adoption of flexible work to boost productivity and enhance workplace culture. As companies in the nation embrace the concept of flexible work, it is vital to ensure employees are able to work effectively in a remote setting.

While smooth onboarding and an organised work model are key aspects of remote work, it is also important to focus on keeping the team motivated in the long term to avoid feeling isolated.

Motivation often stems from an enjoyable environment, which may look different when employees are in an office versus when they are part of a fully remote team. At Deel, we make an extra effort to ensure our employees remain engaged and enjoy their workdays. Here are a few measures that have worked for us so far.

  1. Establishing clear expectations and guidelines: We provide employees with clear expectations for their roles and responsibilities, as well as guidelines for communication, performance, and productivity. This helps them feel more confident and comfortable in their roles and helps prevent misunderstandings or conflicts.
  1. Investing in technology and equipment: Providing employees with the technology and equipment they need to work effectively and efficiently, such as laptops, software, and communication tools. We make sure that the technology and equipment are up-to-date and reliable to prevent frustration and downtime.
  1. Fostering a sense of community and connection: At Deel, we encourage regular communication and collaboration among employees through virtual meetings, messaging platforms, and other tools. This enables opportunities for social interaction, such as virtual happy hours or team-building activities, to foster a sense of community and connection.
  1. Offering flexible schedules and work arrangements: We offer employees flexibility in their schedules and work arrangements, such as the option to work from home or adjust their hours as needed. This helps them balance their work and personal lives and improves morale and job satisfaction.
  1. Providing support and resources: Offering employees support and resources is key to helping them manage their workload, balance their responsibilities, and maintain their mental and physical health. This includes access to wellness programs, mental health resources, and support for caregiving responsibilities.

By implementing these strategies, I believe organisations can help make remote work a more enjoyable and effective experience for their employees, which can lead to higher job satisfaction, better retention rates, and improved overall performance.
