“The world of work is changing fast. Without a strong, external perspective on your job and yourself, you cannot be successful.”

By The HR Observer

Professor, author and expert on leadership development, Herminia Ibarra, will join us at the HR Summit and Expo to share her approach on how to step up to bigger leadership roles through her sessions; ‘Leadership Development: How Can HR Reinvent Themselves by First Acting Like a Leader, Then Thinking Like One’.

During day three of the regional HR event, delegate ticket holders are invited to attend two sessions with HR guru Herminia as she explains why acting your way into a leadership role can be a more powerful tool than thinking your way into one.

“Plunge into new projects and activities, interact with very different kinds of people, and experiment with new ways of getting things done — and then observe the results of your actions. It’s the opposite of learning by self-reflection, in which we seek insight on our past behaviors. Outsight often surprises us, paving the way for radically new patterns of thought and action”

Talking to us ahead of the event, Herminia, author of ‘Act Like a Leader, Think Like a Leader’ shares three ways how you can develop outsight in order to become a better leader:

  • Redefine your job to make time for more strategic work and more work outside your function, unit and even organisation
  • Diversify your network so that you connect to and learn from a bigger range of stakeholders
  • Get more playful with your sense of self so that you allow yourself to experiment with styles of behaving that go against your nature
